    Highlights from lab

    Our contributions:

on Organic synthesis and Peptide chemistry:

We have developed four environment friendly, cost-effective, and recyclable coupling reagents (renewable chemicals) which can be used for preparation of high quality peptides as well as for other transformations:

    on Drug design:

Introduced the concept of Pro-drug in the domain of drug design against protein misfolding diseases in the form of BBDP. In the concept of Beta Breaker Di-Peptides, BBDP,  an well designed peptide goes inside the cellular environment and gets converted to its active form in situ. These peptides align themselves easily with the disease forming fibrils, then disrupts fibrils as soon as the active form is achieved.

    (ACS Chemical Neuroscience, 2014, 5 (5), 400–408.)

Concept of Beta Sheet Breaker Hybrid Peptides, (BSBHps), is also introduced and demonstrated that peptides designed following such concept may have excellent ability for inhibition of fibril formation as well as fibril disruption.

    (Chem. Commun., 2015, 51, 2245 - 2248. highlighted as cover page)

Two Indian patent applications are filed on some of the physiologically relevant designed peptides. (Aplication  No. E-2/1727/2015/KOL & 201631018104)

Congratulations to all my students (present and past). Our work on ortho-NosylOXY (the recyclable peptide coupling reagent) was recognized as the best one by the Industrial Green Chemistry Foundation for its potential on the cost reduction at source and waste
minimization in chemical industries and got awarded IGCW-2015 (Industrial Green Chemistry World award - 2015) at Hotel Courtyard Marriott, Mumbai, on the 4th Dec, 2015. A trophy was handed over to myself (Dr. Bhubaneswar Mandal) by Dr. David Constable, Director, ACS Green Chemistry Institute and Dr. John Warner, who is regarded as the Father of Green Chemistry. Later I came to know that the entries were judged by them as well.
