Summer School on ASR

For spreading the awareness about automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology, IIT Guwahati has been organizing summer schools since 2017. Those schools were aimed at beginners, and provided exposure to both theoretical and developmental aspects of building ASR systems. Encouraged by the responses received for the earlier schools, the organizers plan to conduct the 3rd school in that series. This year's summer school focuses on more advanced topics such as use of deep neural network (DNN) and end-to-end (E2E) approaches for ASR. The sessions would emphasize on building of hybrid ASR systems using various DNN architectures and also provides ample hands-on experience to the participants.

Highlights of Technical Programme:

Review of conventional ASR system
Acoustic and language modeling
Training and evaluation of hybrid ASR systems
Hands-on experience using Kaldi and RNNLM toolkits
Demonstration of E2E ASR system

Click here for the detailed (tentative) program schedule of the summer school. The participants are required to bring their own laptop (with at least 4GB RAM and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installed) for the hands-on sessions.

Participation Fee:

Note: The IITG participants may opt for lunch by paying an additional amount of Rs 1500/-.

Mode of Payment:

The full participation fee will be collected in cash on-spot at the time of the registration. For confirmation purpose, the non-local participants are required to speed-post/courier a demand draft worth Rs 1000/- drawn in favour of "Registrar, IIT Guwahati" to the address mentioned in the contact details. The DD will be handed back to the participant at the time of registration along with a fixed cancellation charge of Rs 100/-. After posting the DD, the participants need to do online registration as well as upload the required documents (snapshots of DD, courier/speed post receipt, and ID-card) in the Google form on or before 28th May, 2019.

Accommodation:

The participants will be provided accommodation on twin sharing basis in one of the hostels/guest house of the institute. The registration fee does not include accommodation charges. These have to be paid by the participants separately.

The charge for hostel accommodation is INR 200 per day per head which includes room rent, lodging and bedding charges.
The charge for guest house accommodation is INR 850 per day per head.
