Welcome to BERL
About us
Bioengineering Research Laboratory (BERL)at IIT Guwahati believes in multi-pronged approaches to answer questions of nature. To be a specialist and a focused researcher the funnel of knowledge at the top has to be wider and wider and BERL promotes amongst its members the notion that “all knowledge is equally important” for the process of innovation and creativity.
One of our interests is to develop novel biomaterials for applications in drug delivery, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. BERL have developed Nano carriers for delivery of water insoluble drug candidates like curcumin. We have also developed several silk-based conduits for treating peripheral nerve injury. Currently, we are investigating the application of Aptamer as diagnostic probes in breast cancer and celiac disease.
Nature is the repository of not just phenomena and materials but also the ultimate source of inspiration for research. BERL is involved in Seribiodiversity exploration for seeking new materials for its applications research. We deploy all cutting edge technology platforms starting from Nano to Omics to Computational biology to collect data and understand the intricacies involved. Web resources developed by BERL are accessed worldwide by diverse communities freely. The web portal “SeriPort” provides information on existing databases on Seribiodiversity and “Curcumin Resource Database” is an information hub on various aspects of curcuminoids.
