Working under the theme concept of CESME, PMMMNMTT ‘Unnat Shikshak–Unnat Bharat’ and to innovatively redesign/re-experiment/reorient/reform the present science pedagogy, two back-to-back specialized workshops “Demonstration Experiments Workshop for Teaching and Analyzing” were organized during 4-6 April, 2018 and 9-11 April, 2018. A total of 75 teachers of 11-12th standard from 7 NE states, Orissa, West Bengal and Rajasthan participated these workshop. Eminent physics expert Prof H. C. Verma was the key resource person for this specialized workshop.

As per the Government of India initiative, AICTE and NPIU-MHRD planned five 3-days “TEQIP Training Workshops for Faculty-Mentors on Induction Program” as a part of TEQIP-III at all the zonal level. IIT Guwahati, being one of the mentor institute for all the TEQIP mapped Institutes of North East Region, hosted 3-day Induction Workshop for entire NER zone during October 13-15, 2017 at IIT Guwahati. This workshop broadly focused on some of very pertinent issues in modern ways of teaching and value education. More than 120 faculty members from various states (Jammu & Kashmir to Tamil Nadu) joined this workshop, which was a grand success.

IITG is given a huge responsibility of mentoring 13 engineering institutions of NER of India under TEQIP III, which also includes twinning arrangements under the MoUs signed with all the mentee institutions as felicitated by MHRD in 2017. To initiate the execution of TEQIP Action Plan, CET organized 1st one-day “TEQIP Phase III Orientation Conclave” for all the participating institutes at IITG on 11th August, 2017 in collaboration with MHRD. Chief Secretary of Assam had presided over in the conclave where several interesting prospective were discussed/finalized. This conclave was attended by directors/principals and nodal officers of 29 NER CFTIs and States institutes.

First historic Teacher Training Camp (TTC) was organized by CET along with department of physics during 13 – 18 December, 2015 for physics teachers from various schools across the state of Assam under the MoU signed with the Education department, Govt. of Assam. Since then, CET along with department of physics, chemistry and mathematics organized six (6) such science (PCM) camps for 9-10th and 11-12th standard teachers from various schools across the state of Assam.

“Institute Open Science Day” was organized on March 09, 2018 by CESME, PMMMNMTT, IIT Guwahati in association with Students’ Academic Board during the Research Conclave - 2018 to showcase different science and technical application of concept along with motivational talk by Prof H. C. Verma (ex-professor, IIT Kanpur). This one-day science open activity was attended by more than 700 students and 100 teachers from different schools and colleges of in and around Guwahati.

Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education (CESME) under PMMMNMTT at IITG organized institute lecture by Prof H. C. Verma on 9th April, 2018. Prof Verma delivered popular lecture titles “Neutrino Katha”. Institute lecture was well attended by students and teachers of IIT Guwahati.

CET organized South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Workshop on Optics & Photonics, “SAWOP – 2015” during November 17–18, 2015 under the UNESCO IYL 2015 celebration. UNESCO opted IIT Guwahati for this workshop. The objectives of the two days’ workshop were to (a) ensure an awareness about the impact and importance of light and light-based technologies in our lives, in our future, and for the development of society through a series of popular lectures, (b) provide a forum for close interaction with internationally acclaimed eminent teachers and researchers, (c) communicate to the youth population of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of light-based technologies, and (d) to infuse an interest in young brains and to inspire them towards light based engineering, science and technologies. Workshop was attended by over 300 participants all across Guwahati and nearby area as well as from various parts of India. Over 25 delegations from SAARC countries and UNESCO delivered popular as well as research oriented lectures. To strengthen the quality of Science (Physics, Math and Chemistry) teaching-learning processes and to strengthen subject expertise amongst in-service teachers across the state’s schools, IIT Guwahati signed MoU with Education department, Govt. of Assam in the chamber of Education Minister at 11:30 am on 13/10/2015. MoU was signed by Prof A. K. Gogoi (Dean (OEP)) from IIT Guwahati and Mr. Sarat Borkotoky (Education Minister, Govt of Assam) where Mr R. C. Jain (Secretary of Govt. of Assam, Education (Secondary) Dept. & Mission Director, RMSA Assam) and Prof Sunil Khijwania (Head CET) were also present. The initiative was a result of talks between the then Union HRD minister, Smt. Smriti Irani and Mr. Barkotoky during the convocation at IITG that year, where Mr. Borkotoky urged Smt. Irani to help impart training to schoolteachers for quality education. As per the direction of HRD minister, IIT Guwahati came forward to take up a leadership role in order to impart quality and strengthen the teachers of Assam.

• CET carried out studies on “Strengthening Implementation Arrangements in (TEQIP) Phase-III” across six states, NPIU and MHRD which was focused on finding gaps/shortcomings of the previous phases and to model a novel institutional structure for the phase III. Download report here
• Under TEQIP III, IIT Guwahati mentors a total of 13 engineering institutions from NER of India out of which 10 are jointly mentored with IIT Kharagpur.
• A total of 216 faculty members from 25 TEQIP II mapped institutions were trained by IITG under TEQIP II in a span of one and half year.
• CESME, IITG under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) collaborated with RMSA, KVS, IAPT and mapped participation of teachers/students from XX states in all its activities. Few more states to be integrated soon.
