Institute assistantships are available to eligible PG students. Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies, are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms. The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the PG Programme.

- TCS Fellowships: Students admitted to Ph.D. and Dual-degree programmes are eligible to apply for TCS fellowships (currently 25000/- per month). TCS sponsors, the selected full-time Ph.D. student (TCS Research Scholar), for a maximum of four years or submission of thesis for Ph.D., whichever is earlier.

- Prime Minister’s Fellowship Scheme For Doctoral Research: This scheme is a PPP (public-private-partnership) initiative of Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The scheme supports aspiring full-time Ph.D. scholars with scholarship, 50% of which will be provided by government and balance 50% by a sponsoring industry, for doing research for four years and the research fellow will receive Ph.D. by doing this industrial research. Note: The department faculty members are always accessible by research scholars, in case help is needed while applying for these assistantships. - A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her M.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the Ph.D. programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only Ph.D. Degree.
- A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her B.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the Ph.D. programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual B.Tech. and Ph.D. Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of Ph.D. degree.
- Contingency grant upto Rupees 5000/- to all Regular category M.Tech. and Ph.D. students sponsored by MHRD, in every financial year.
- Conference and Travel Support: Department provides travel and conference support to present papers.

Institute level MoUs can be found here. - Department’s major facilities and infrastructure: Each student, registered with the department, is provided with individual work-spaces and computers consisting of Intel i5, i3, Pentium 4 or AMD Phenon processors. The work-spaces are connected to the Gigabit Network of the department which in turn is connected to the Institute 10 Gigabit Network on optical fibre.
