When dealing with speech signals it is important to understand the nature and behavior of the signal. There is a lot of variability in recorded human speech for the same sentence which makes mathematical analysis a major challenge. We employ both time and frequency based analysis techniques to get a better understanding of the various speech events. A detailed understanding of various vocal activities is done using the acoustic phonetic approach.
