AI & Machine Learning lab. course: Robotics Lab. Research Scholars – Ms. Divya Kulkarni, Mr. Suraj Pandey and Ms. Menaxi Bagchi, conduct the AI & Machine Learning lab. course (semester May-Sept. 2021) of the M.Tech. (Medical Devices) programme at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), Guwahati, India.

Ms. Divya Kulkarni’s, paper co-authored by Shivashankar B. NairAn Immuno-Inspired Transfer Learning Paradigm wins the Best Student Paper award at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2021), a ranked conference, scheduled from 28.06-1.07.2021, Kraków, Poland. The award included a US$250 cash prize and a citation.

Ms. Divya Kulkarni, Research Scholar, invited to Chair session R27 on Evolved Neural Networks at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2021), a ranked conference, scheduled from 28.06-1.07.2021, Kraków, Poland.

2020

Dr. Tushar Semwal, alumnus of this Lab. and currently a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Offshore Robotics for Certification of Assets (ORCA), School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh, has been awarded the Wellcome Trust Innovation £1000 grant as a Principal Investigator, to carry out a short term independent research project. Dr. Semwal will be collaborating with a team of senior researchers from the University of Cambridge, Edinburgh, and East Anglia.

Novel Immune-Inspired Language Processing gets Recognition in a top tiered conference in Evolutionary Computing GECCO 2015:

An Immune inspired approach for sentence generation (authored by Samir Borgohain & Shivashankar B. Nair) paper accepted and published in the Proceedings of the Genetic & Evolutionary Computation Conference, GECCO 2015, held at Madrid, Spain, in 11-15th July 2015. Papers were reviewed by six reviewers. The work describes as to how Jerne’s Nobel prize winning Idiotypic Theory can be used for automatic generation of correct sentences in approximately the same manner as postulated by him in his Nobel lecture – The Generative Grammar of the Immune System.

Typhon: A Mobile Agent Framework for real world emulation developed by Jatin Matani as part of his BTech project. Typhon (not Typhoon!) allows users program mobile agents, embed dynamic code, clone and send them across a real network. To  read more about it click on – Typhon. Lego interface for LPA Prolog: Developed by Shashi Shekhar Jha using LPA Prolog this interface allows programming and control of Lego NXT robots. The interface facilitates control of multiple robots using a Prolog program running on the host machine. Remotely hosted robots can also be controlled. The use of Prolog allows for intelligence gathering and processing from the real world. This interface can also be downloaded from this site for free.

2010

Nayan – A Robotic assistant for the Visually Challenged, made by Anurag Nilesh, Gaurav Gupta and Gunjan Aggarwal (Team: Three Blind Mice), wins a Consolation Prize at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2010 in ‘Accessibility for Local Innovation Award‘ category. The project was part of their BTech project guided by Shivashankar B. Nair.

2008-2009

South Korean Brain Pool Professorship conferred on Dr. Shivashankar B. Nair for research in the area of Emotional Robotics by the South Korean Federation of Science & Technology (KOFST).

2005

SapienNet –  A team, comprising Gautam Das, Rahul Singh, Archit Gupta and Suvesh Malhotra and mentored by Shivashankar B. Nair, makes it to the  finals of the Windows Embedded Systems Challenge (WESC-2005) held at Microsoft, Redmond, USA.
