Admissions to the Ph.D. Programme in the Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering

  • The selection process for the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) will be held from 26th Nov 2025 to 28th Nov 2025.
  • The list of candidates shortlisted for the upcoming Ph.D. programme admission interviews (December 2025 Session) has been announced. The applicants can check their status in their respective logins on the Application portal. (Link: https://www.iitg.ac.in/admission/login)
  • Candidates are requested to visit this webpage regularly for updates.

OFFLINE WRITTEN TEST (IATMLA) CANDIDATES:

  • Candidates who have not qualified GATE but have completed their M.Tech Degree and have been shortlisted for written test will have to appear for the offline written test (IATMLA) at IIT Guwahati on 26th Nov. 2025.

  • Candidates appearing for offline written exam (IATMLA) will be interviewed in offline mode by the interview panels only after qualifying the offline written exam (IATMLA). Candidates will not be interviewed if they fail to qualify the written exam.

  • Please note that, candidates will be allowed to appear for written exam for only one specialization based on the first panel preference, as mentioned in the online panel preference form. However, if you qualify the exam of your first panel preference you can appear for offline interview in one additional panel, if you wish to do so, as indicated by you in the online panel preference form.

  • Reporting Time for the Written Test (IATMLA): All candidates shortlisted for the written test need to report to Room no. 2202 (Second Floor of Core 2, EEE Department, Academic Block, IIT Guwahati) for document verification (documents mentioned in the interview call letter) by 9:45 AM on 26th Nov. 2025. Your written test will commence from 11:00 AM on 26th Nov. 2025.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS:

  • Reporting Time for Interview: The interviews will be held offline for all candidates (including those who have qualified IATMLA). So, the shortlisted candidates have to appear physically for the selection process.

  • The interviews will commence from 9:00 AM on 27th Nov. 2025. In case, interview process is not completed on 27th Nov. 2025, then only the interview will be continued on 28th Nov. 2025.

  • Candidates shortlisted for the interview need to report to EEE Department at 8:45 AM, 27th Nov. 2025 for document verification without fail.

  • The interviews will be conducted through SIX specialization panels (as mentioned in Table 2 below). The candidates are required to fill up their panel preferences form (sent in email with call letter) before 5.00 PM on Nov. 23, 2025, in which you will enter at most TWO panel preferences, for which you wish to be interviewed.

  • Please note that the panel preferences for all candidates should be only from the specializations mentioned in your application form.

  • Candidates may get the details of the panel aligned to their research interests from the link given here.

  • Associated Faculties with each panel is summarized in Table 2.

  • For candidates who do not fill the online panel preference form, sent via email together with interview call letter, before the deadline, the choices mentioned in the application form will be considered to be their final preferences.

    • The shortlisting criteria for the Regular and Non-Regular studentship categories for Ph.D. admissions are same as the minimum eligibility criteria specified in the institute advertisement for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering for the December 2025 Session. The eligibility criteria for Ph.D. admissions are available here and the studentship eligibility criteria are available here.
    • In case you meet the eligibility and shortlisting criteria but your application status in the portal shows "Not Shortlisted" or "Not Eligible", then please send an email to: eeeadmissions@iitg.ac.in with the subject line "Discrepancy in shortlisting for Ph.D. Admissions December 2025" at the earliest.

    TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT, ACCOMMODATION AND MEAL:

    Travel Reimbursement

    • Candidates appearing for the Offline Written Test (IATMLA) and qualify it to avail institute assistantship, shall be provided reimbursement of travel expenses at the rate of to-and-fro sleeper class railway fare between hometown and Guwahati, irrespective of the mode (bus/cab/train/flight) the candidate has chosen to travel to Guwahati.

    • Candidates appearing for offline interview and belonging to Regular studentship category shall be provided reimbursement of travel expenses at the rate of to-and-fro sleeper class railway fare between hometown and Guwahati, irrespective of the mode (bus/cab/train/flight) the candidate has chosen to travel to Guwahati.

    • You will need to submit Tickets & proof of payment.The inward journey ticket (Boarding Pass/Train ticket) in original, and a photocopy of the outward journey ticket are to be submitted for reimbursement.

    • After processing, travel allowance will be deposited directly to the candidate's bank account (bank details submitted on online application form will be used). Processing might take up to a few months.
    Paid Accommodation / lodging
    • The paid accommodation (if you choose to avail it) between Nov. 25, 2025, and Nov. 28, 2025, as mentioned in the call letter issued, will be arranged on sharing basis at the IIT Guwahati hostels only.
    • Please note that this accommodation facility is open only to the candidates, not to any person accompanying them. No other request regarding this matter will be entertained.
    • Payment details will be updated soon.
    • Candidates should submit two printed payment proofs; one at the security desk at the time of check-in by writing their name in CAPITAL LETTER and another needs to be submitted during document verification on help desk in EEE Department.
