The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), IEEE ComSoc Student Branch Chapter, and the Research Scholar Forum, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (RSF-EEE), IIT Guwahati, jointly organized an insightful technical talk on “SemCom: Moving Towards Intelligent AI-Based Communication” on 2 September 2026.

The event featured Dr. Anirban Bhowal, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Rourkela, as the invited speaker.

The session provided an engaging introduction to Semantic Communication (SemCom) and its potential to shape communication systems in the emerging 6G and AI-native era. Dr. Bhowal discussed the evolving research landscape of SemCom, highlighting its applications and emerging directions, including AI-driven communication, context-aware semantic communication, healthcare applications, Generative AI, resource allocation, and quantum semantic communication.

The technical talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session, providing an opportunity for research scholars and participants to engage with the speaker, exchange ideas, and discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in the field.
