Phylogenetic description of the genus Zingiber
Zingiber, reportedly is a monophyletic group (Kress et al., 2002) and have been classified, based on morphological data, into four clads. The phylogeny based on the sequences from the species which were collected and described here has only two clads as there was no representation from the other two clad, Cryptanthium. Z. moran considered a wild relative of Z. officinale clustered in the same group. The close clustering of the unidentified Zingiber species1 with the Z. moran and Z. officinale inkles that former could be a wild relative to the later two. |
