Dr. Dilip Sarma started his professional career as a Production Engineer in Assam Oil Co. (presently I.O.C. Ltd) after graduating from IIT Kharagpur as a BC Roy Gold Medalist in 1976. At Assam Oil, Dr. Sarma worked for over four years in oil field operations. He then worked with Designs Group, Calcutta as the Project Manager for erection and commissioning of heavy machinery like gas turbine power plant and natural gas compressor stations from 1980-1983. While working with Design Group, he completed Postgraduate Diploma in Non-Destructive Testing at BARC, Trombay and MERADO, Pune (1981). He then undertook postgraduate research studies at I.I.T. Kharagpur from 1984-1986 where he completed his masters specializing in Robotics. Dr. Sarma started his own consultancy firm M/s Project Engineers at Guwahati in 1986 as the Proprietor, in which, he has continued to date executing over hundreds of assignments in the fields of regional economic and industrial development embracing survey, analysis, design, techno-economic feasibility, and project implementation not only within the country but also internationally such as to the Republic of Gabon, Malaysia etc. Along with executing business and technical consulting through his firm, in parallel, he completed his PhD research studies in the field of Natural Resource Management from Central University, Tezpur during the period (2002-2007). Dr. Sarma has to his credit several papers published in proceedings of national and international conferences in the fields of Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management including a working paper for World Bank for CPR (forest resource), ICAR, Department of Land Resource etc. Dr. Sarma also has previous experience in the field of academics as the Head of the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering for a period of two years at the Regional Institute of Science and Technology which is under the affiliation of Northeast Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya.
