ABOUT

The 4th International Convention (INTERCON) of SPIC MACAY will be held at IIT Guwahati from 9th to 15th May 2016. The convention aims at spreading the movement globally and is a step further in achieving VISION 2020.
Guwahati, the largest city of Assam, located on the banks of mighty Brahmaputra river is gateway to North East India. Also known as the "City of Temples", the city boasts of Kamakhya Temple, which is one of the ShaktiPeeths in India; and an ancient Umananda Temple located at peacock Island in middle of river Brahmaputra. Guwahati is connected to major cities via daily flights and rails.
IIT Guwahati established in 1994 is the sixth member of IIT fraternity. The campus is located on a sprawling 700 acres plot of land on the north bank of river Brahmaputra, 20 kms from the heart of city. With majestic Brahmaputra on one side and with hills and lakes on campus, IIT Guwahati provides an ideal environment for the delegates of 4th InterCon.
IIT Guwahati has a very unique course as a part of curriculum called the SA Course which promotes Indian Classical Culture among the youth. Course offers choice among Sattriya dance, Classical Instrumental and Classical Vocals taught by "Artists in Residence", Smt. Anwesa Mahanta, Sri Devanand Pathak, Smt. Anita Mahanta and Smt. Bhaswati Sarma. Course had been introduced from the academic year 2015-16. With an overwhelming response from over 60 students enrolled in the course, a huge increase is anticipated in the enrolment next session, thus making IIT Guwahati play a major role in promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among the future generation.
IIT Guwahati hosted North East Regional Convention and IIT Guwahati Virasat in August 2014. This convention witnessed mesmerising performances from the artists like Sri Buddhadev Das Gupta, Smt. Ileana Citaristi, Sri Wasim Ahmed Khan, Sri Shahid Parvez and many more.
The 4th International Convention is aimed at bringing of the North East heritage with intensives and concerts showcasing the various art forms from the ancient North East. Details of the concerts and workshops will be announced post finalisation. The same will be accessed through SPIC MACAY website and mails. The 4th InterCon will culminate with a number of heritage walks to locations around the city on 15th May 2016.
