Nanu Alan Kachari

Mr. Nanu Alan Kachari is a Scientific/Technical Officer at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He received his Master of Technology (M.Tech. CSE with specialization in Information Security, 2012) from IIT Guwahati and is currently persuing his Doctorate from his alma mater. Before joining IIT Guwahati in 2008, he had a prior career at Aircel (2005-2008) as Assistant Manager, where he was responsible for setting up the IT infrastructure for both Assam and North-East Telecom Circles, during the initial phase of the organization. Prior to his work at Aircel, he did have a brief stint as Technical Assistant at IIT Guwhati (2004-2005), during the end of the Institute's first decade of inception. He also had a brief stint with the BPO industry during it's global boom, at New Delhi (2002-2003). During this period, he also completed his Master of Science (M.Sc. IT, 2003), from Sikkim Manipal University - Distance Education. Mr. Kachari was also involved, in setting up the first private ISP Satyam Infoway (2000-2001) at Guwahati, after obtaining his Microsoft^® Certification in 1999. He also worked as a hardware service engineer, sales executive for few private firms and as a consultant to establish several Internet cafés in Guwahati city, during the late 1990s. In addition to this, Mr. Kachari also taught Computer Education at Maria's Public School for a brief period (later part of 1990s). Cotton College (now Cotton University) is also his alma mater (B.Sc. Physics, 1993-1998). He completed his primary and secondary level education from Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara, Guwahati (1981-1993). Mr. Kachari has self taught himself to play musical instruments like the Guitar, Piano, Flute and now plans to learn playing the drums too. He listens to all genre of music, enjoys cooking and tries to lead a low carbon footprint lifestyle.

Mr. Kachari is an enthusiastic Open Source fan. He continues to advocate the usage of FOSS (Free Open Source Software) at IIT Guwahati while also creating Software Automation tools for in-house use, using contemporary available FOSS tools and libraries.
