The portal Northeast Zingiberaceae Resource Centre (NEZRC), has been developed as a part of the project supported by Department of Information Technology (DIT: 0526/T/IITG/014/0809/38), Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India at Applied Biodiversity Laboratory, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. This portal specifically provides information on the databases related to genus and species covering the respective information for habitat, feature, economic and medicinal importance, scientific classification, synonyms, vernacular name, image of plants various parts (most of them are the image collected by us, but some have been reused with request made to the owner of the image), and the barcode sequence information generated. The vision behind development of this portal is to provide a common and easily accessible platform for the gingers of NE India. The database would be a very effective tool for researcher who would like to pursue towards utilizing the economic benefits of Zingiberaceae. Since the selected plants are of wide medical importance and have greater economic significance, genomic and molecular authentication are being carried out for these species. This is important for species delineation, planning genetic diversity studies, breeding and sequencing. Techniques like Flow cytometry are used for genome size characterization.
