Guwahati is well connected to other parts of the country by road, rail or air. Daily flights are available to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore from the airport. Air India, Jet Airways, Spicejet, Indigo, and Go Air operate regular flights to and from Guwahati. There are regular trains connecting Guwahati to and from other major cities of the country.
IIT Guwahati is approximately 20 kms from Guwahati Railway Station and 12 kms from Kamakhya Railway Station. From LGBI Airport the distance to IITG is about 22 km. Auto and taxis are available at Railway Station. .
From Airport taxis are available but there is no direct public transit service to IIT Guwahati. IIT Guwahati also runs a shuttle bus service from Guwahati city. The starting point (Pan Bazar) is the RBI crossing, about 5 minutes walking distance from Guwahati Junction.

Commuting to the Institute from the city
For commuting from the railway station to the IIT Guwahati campus, Taxi and auto-rickshaws are available. IIT Guwahati has also its own transportation facilities to ply to and fro from the campus to the city.
Flights to Guwahati
There are direct flights from/to Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country. Air India, Jet Airways, Spicejet, Indigo, and Go Air operate regular flights to and from Guwahati. Getting to IITG from the airport (which may take around 40 minutes) will cost around Rs. 550 in a pre-paid taxi available at the airport check-out point.
