Department Of Design (DoD) proposes to set-up a Design Innovation Centre, which will create an eco-system of innovation by collaborating with different disciplines. These disciplines will include other departments at IIT Guwahati, other universities/ schools, industry and other governmental and Non-governmental organizations. DoD will focus on the North-eastern region of the country and the emphasis will be on sustainable development of the region through design-centered innovations in sectors like agriculture, health, sanitation, urbanization, tourism, education, etc. Special emphasis will be laid on incubating innovative ideas to commercialisable ventures through incubation support programs. It will identify grass-root innovations in the North-east and act as a catalyst and training Centre which helps to incubate these ideas into commercial and mainstream product solutions. The North- East region also hosts a typical culture and traditional approach to sustainable living. The centre will identify and study them and create scalable models for sustainable living and development. DoD proposes a HUB & SPOKE structure. The innovation scenarios to be considered are broadly classified as Social Innovation, Knowledge Innovation, Health & Well Being Innovation, Habitat Innovation and Industrial & Manufacturing Innovation. All the INNOVATION SCENARIOS are well interconnected. This ensures a solid chunk of output of the proposed centre with a well-strategized and focused effort. This hub & spoke model encompasses the Design Innovation Centre located at the Department of Design, IIT Guwahati as the hub with spokes located at various other departments at IIT Guwahati, other universities, research laboratories or institutions, civic bodies and NGOs.. |
