The Design Researchers Forum is an initiative that unites the growing community of design researchers, academics, and practicing professionals in India. Addressing the inherently felt need and potential of the Design research community, it aims to create a platform for sharing research initiatives and amplifying the voices of ardent scholars across the design research community in India. It is heartening to see that the next generation of Design researchers is driving this initiative.

In the year 2002, IIT Guwahati made a formal foray into Design research with the commencement of a Doctoral program in Design – an important first initiative among any HEI in India. Since its inception, the program has nurtured the talents of over 80 researchers who delved into a diverse range of design research domains. These domains encompass design thinking, innovative design methods, cross-cultural influences in user-centered design, human-computer interaction, human factors, ergonomics, design for sustainability, virtual reality, digital human modeling, cultural and visual design studies, and the multifaceted field of design management.
