What we do?

We are interested to understand the molecular mechanism of calcium signaling pathway using the model filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa. Calcium ion is a universal second messenger molecule that impacts almost all cell processes in eukaryotes. We hope to extend our research to understand the role of calcium signaling in memory, learning, and other related areas in future.

Chronology

2016: Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for discoveries on circadian clock.

2006: A high-throughput gene knockout procedure was developed for Neurospora.

2003: The genome sequence of Neurospora crassa was published.

1970: Genetic and microbiological research techniques for Neurospora was published.

1960: The Fungal Genetics Stock Center (FGSC) was established.

1958: Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for discoveries on genetic regulation of chemical events, recombination and organization of the genetic material.

1941: One gene-one enzyme hypothesis was proposed.

1927: The genus Neurospora was named.

1843: First published report of Neurospora described contamination in bakeries in Paris.
