Learning Bioengineering, I’ve gradually understood that industries are the heart of an economy, however, abating the resulting pollutions caused by these is the biggest hurdle in view of public interest. Graduated in Biotechnology and further specialized in Environment, my ultimate aim is to seek a long term career in such an organization, which would enhance the efficiency and dynamicity of R&D in order to alleviate a portion of such a problem. I wish to be a human resource with utmost effectiveness, possessing good professional and interpersonal skills for the welfare to all forms of humankind and to be on par to the best interests of my country at challenging positions. Off the track, I find myself involved in singing, traveling, and writing.
Thesis abstract: Petroleum industries have emerged as one of the most valuable energy sectors. Production of petrochemicals is considered to be a key for social and economic development of a country. During the refining process these refineries produce a number of essential compounds which are of daily use to households and other industrial operations. However, generation of huge amount of wastes in the form of wastewater and sludge are the major challenges faced by the industries as they are directly released into the environment resulting in the deterioration of the quality of soil, water and their associated habitats. An end-to-pipe solution to combat such an adverse condition could lie in utilising viable microbial cells indigenous to such polluted sites which could use these harmful components as their sole source of nutrient and hence, either completely biomineralize these class of pollutants or biotransform them into their lesser toxic form. Thus, the focus of the work is shaped to devise an optimum process to implement a comprehensive, elaborate and effective bioremediation strategy to mitigate such contamination.
