IIT Guwahati offers the MTech in Flood and Water Resources Management in hybrid mode through the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati. The program is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and applied skills to address complex challenges related to water scarcity, climate variability, and sustainable development.
Emphasizing integrated and sustainable water resource management, the curriculum prepares graduates to develop data-driven solutions for flood risk assessment, hydrological modeling, and climate adaptation strategies across diverse hydrological and socio-economic contexts.
Minimum 2 years (6 trimesters), extendable up to 5 years (15 trimesters).
110 credits — 62 from coursework + 48 from Capstone Projects.
Hybrid — online instruction with campus visits for capstone projects and exams.
B.E./B.Tech in Civil/Agricultural Engineering or Allied Disciplines with 1 year professional experience in water resources sector. GATE not required.
Submit application form with required documents and pay application fee.
Appear for interview/written test conducted by the CE Department.
Provisional offer letter sent to selected candidates.
Pay admission fee, receive student ID and email, and register for trimester.
This degree is open to all working professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge in the field of Water Resources Engineering.
Although the program entry point is the same for all students, you may choose to exit at different stages by earning the corresponding certificate upon successful completion of the required coursework.
