MTech (RAI)

IIT Guwahati offers the MTech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in hybrid mode through the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability (SISS), IIT Guwahati. The program combines robotics, machine learning, automation, and AI technologies to solve real-world challenges.

Open to fresh graduates and working professionals alike, this program provides a flexible path to a world-class MTech degree — with no GATE requirement and no restrictions on age or location.

Duration

Minimum 2 years (6 trimesters), extendable up to 5 years (15 trimesters).

Total Credits

108 credits — 60 from coursework (10 courses) + 48 from Capstone Projects.

Mode

Hybrid — online instruction with on-campus components for capstone projects and final exams.

Eligibility

4/5-year B.E./B.Tech in EE, CS, Mechanical, Civil, IT, Design or related fields, OR a Master's degree. 60%+ marks. GATE not required.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 4-year or 5-year Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Production, Civil, IT, Design or related disciplines, OR a Master's degree in science, engineering, technology, commerce, medicine, or business.
  • Minimum 60% marks or 6.0/10 CPI in Class XII (or equivalent) and undergraduate/postgraduate degree.
  • Mathematics studied at least up to Class 12 level.
  • GATE score not required.

  • Government-issued photo ID proof (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.).
  • All academic mark sheets and degree certificates.

  • Work experience certificate (if applicable).

  • Fill the online application form, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee of ₹500.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to appear for a written test and/or interview.
  • Pay the test/interview fee of ₹2,000 (payment link sent by IIT Guwahati after application review).
  • Selection is based on performance in the written test and/or interview — no direct admission.
  • Provisional offer letter issued to selected candidates.
  • Pay the Admission Fee (₹50,000) to secure your seat.
  • Student ID and official IITG email created after payment verification.

Rejoin when you're ready: Students who exit with a PG Certificate or Diploma may re-enter the program after a minimum 1-year gap to complete remaining requirements for the MTech degree.

Supplementary Examinations

Candidates who fail a course must choose one of the following options:

  • Re-register for the course and participate in all assessments, including online classes/live sessions; OR
  • Re-register only for the assessments without attending online classes/live sessions, provided the student achieved more than 75% attendance in the previous attempt.

Flexible Pace: You may register for fewer courses than the prescribed load in a given trimester. To maintain enrollment without registering for any course, pay the Program Continuation Fee of ₹5,000 per trimester. Additional fees may be incurred in case of course repetition.

Yes, upon completion of your degree requirements, a physical MTech degree certificate will be awarded to you at the Convocation Ceremony held at IIT Guwahati.

No, Diploma holders are not eligible to apply for the program. However, Diploma holders who have subsequently completed their BTech degree are eligible to apply.
