Prof. Sashindra Kr. Kakoty is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Guwahati, India. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, he worked at Assam Engineering College, Jorhat Engineering College, OIL Duliajan, Assam Engineering Institute and Tru-Steel Products.
Prof. Kakoty held the positions of Deputy Director (2020-2023), Dean of Resource Generation & Finance (2019-2020) and Dean of Infrastructure, Planning & Management (2014-2018) of IIT Guwahati. He is the founder of the School of Agro & Rural Technology (earlier Centre for Rural Technology) and the first Head of the Centre. He is the Coordinator of RuTAG–NE since its inception in 2006. He was also Regional Coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan from its inception till 2020. Further, he served as the Chairman of the Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) from 2018 to 2021.
His research interests are Tribology of Bearings, Duct Acoustics and Rural Technology.
