1. Adjunct Faculty
Faculty members, scientists, researchers, engineers and other professionals, serving or retired, with an excellent professional track, from leading internationally accredited Educational Institutions/R&D organizations/ Industries would be involved in teaching programmes of the Institute. Whenever an Adjunct Faculty is appointed, a counterpart Regular faculty member at llTG will be nominated along with him/her. The counterpart faculty, together with the Adjunct Faculty, will plan and execute the teaching, setting of examination papers and evaluation of the subject. The adjunct Faculty will be appointed for a specific subject and can teach full length course in one semester or only a part thereof in collaboration with regular faculty.
Minimum Eligibility and Qualifications: Ph.D. in the appropriate area would be an essential qualification. As they will be selected for specific subject, the years of experience they possess must be directly related to the subject, which they will be requiring to teach. They should have at least 3 years of teaching / research / industrial experience, excluding however, the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D., in leading Industries/R&D organizations/Educational institutions of higher learning.
Age Limit: All the positions end when the faculty member turns 70 years of age.
2. Visiting Faculty
Faculty members, scientists, researchers, engineers and other professionals, in their service tenure, from leading internationally accredited Educational Institutions/R&D Organizations/industries with an excellent professional track record would be eligible to be considered for this position. Faculty members often wish to invite faculty members employed elsewhere for delivering lectures in short courses/teaching specific subjects to research scholars and for research collaborations with faculty members of IIT Guwahati.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in the appropriate area would be an essential qualification. The other minimum qualifications would be at least 3 years of teaching / research / industrial experience, excluding however, the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D., in leading Industries/R&D organizations/ Educational institutions of higher learning in India or aboard.
Age Limit: Maximum Age is 65 years at the time of joining the post. It can be relaxed by another 5 years. All the positions end when the faculty member turns 70 years of age.
3. Professor of Practice
One of the key objectives of this position is to have a strong and robust collaboration between the educational Institutions, industry and civil society, to bring external perspective to regular teaching to make classes more interesting and to further enrich existing knowledge of faculty members. The domain knowledge of an expert should be of significant value and possession of M.Tech./ M.Phil./Ph.D. may not be considered as an essential condition.
Minimum Eligibility and Qualifications: The candidates must preferably hold a MTech/MPhil/PhD, but it is not an essential criterion. A lack of such degrees must be offset by demonstrated domain knowledge, obtained from the ‘field’. The candidates shall be. evaluated for their exceptional contributions either because of their unique expertise or because of their potential contribution to the institute through teaching quality and exceptional services. The essential qualifications for such a position would be a minimum of 10 years of experience and showcase of exceptional service/innovation in leading Industries or in civil society/administrative and defense services, etc.

4. Honorary Professor
Faculty members, scientists, researchers, engineers and other professionals, in their service tenure or otherwise, who have served in leading internationally accredited Educational Institutions/R&D Organizations/industries, with an excellent professional track record would be eligible to be considered for this position. Faculty members often wish to invite faculty members employed elsewhere/retired for short stays, delivering lectures and for research collaborations with faculty members of IIT Guwahati. Such persons, who are eligible for Visiting Faculty position, but unable to spend a longer duration of time at IIT Guwahati (atleast 7 days at a time and upto 2 months in 2 years’ duration) can be considered for this position.
Age Limit: There is no upper age limit
5. Distinguished Professor:
The post of Distinguished professor will be above all other categories of faculty/professors visiting the institute as mentioned in serial number 1-4 above. It is meant for an academic of the highest order who is well known to his peers for her/his contribution to a field. He should have had a distinguished career in academics and an unimpeachable character. A person, with whom IIT Guwahati will be honored to be associated.
A minimum of 20 years of experience of which at least 10 years should be at the level of Professor or at an equivalent level in leading Industries/R&D organizations/ Educational institutions of higher learning.
Age Limit: There is no upper age limit
