A talk-cum-interactive session focusing on essential strategies for applying for higher studies, particularly PhDs, such as working on a masters’ thesis, exploring research themes, the role of publications, building relationships with professors, applying for conferences and grants and writing a research proposal. The talk shall further delve into application of a global lens to study local contexts, examining the idea of the ‘global’ and ‘local’ contexts in research work, and possibilities therein.
Jyotishman is currently a PhD research scholar at the University of Chicago. A civil engineer who changed lanes to become a topper in his history postgraduation from the Centre for Historical Studies, JNU, Jyotishman has extensive field research and archival research experience, as well as advanced skills in quantative data analysis and interpretation. His current research interests lie in the economic history of labour, capital and development states, especially in India, China and the US.
Jyotishman is also the co-founder of the YouTube channel India and the Global Left, where he has personally interviewed influential figures such as Raghuram Rajan, Jayati Ghosh, Norman Finkelstein, Prabhat Patnaik, Vijay Prashad and others.
