Research interest

Our research interest is centered mainly on synthetic organic chemistry and chemical biology. The first research includes the development of newer methodologies for the synthesis of peptides, azapeptides, sulfonamides, hydroxamic acids, urea based peptides etc. and also the development of newer coupling reagents for peptide synthesis and other organic reactions.

We have developed few HOBt, Oxyma based coupling reagents. Selected examples:

  •   Boc-Oxyma: Recently, this reagent has got  CAS No. 1426821-11-5 and become commercially available.

  • We have also shown few greener strategies for peptide synthesis. Selected example :

In parallel, we are also working on disruption of amyloid aggregation. Amyloidoses, e.g. Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes type II, Parkinson’s disease etc. are major age related problems at present and knowledge on the evolution, propagation and remedy for these diseases are limited. In situ kink formation can be an effective way for generating a novel strategy for drug design against amyloidoses. We are working on realization of few of such strategies at present. Side by side, works on the elucidation of the pathway of amyloid formation is also in progress.
