Admissions to the M.Tech. (Regular) Programme                                                                                                                        

Eligibility

For admission to the MTech Programme, a candidate must have a Four-year Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech./ B.Sc. (Engineering) / M.Sc. or equivalent) in the relevant discipline with a minimum 6.0 CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) on 10-point scale* (or 60% aggregate marks) with a valid GATE score.

*Note that the CPI/Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

 

Admission Procedure

  • Candidates should satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria and regular studentship criteria as declared in IIT Guwahati main admission portal.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on the GATE score

Admissions to the Ph.D. Programme                                                                                                                                       

 

Admissions for PhD programme are called twice during the year, July and December

Eligibility

For admission to the PhD Programme, a candidate must have:

4-Year/5-Year Bachelor's Degree or a Master's Degree, with CPI 6.0 on 10-point scale* (or 60% of marks), in the relevant discipline.

*Note that the CPI/Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

 

Discipline based on continuing research areas at SART including, but not limited to—

M. Tech in Rural Technology, Food Technology and Biochemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Food Processing, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bioscience and Biotechnology/Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering – With GATE/NET-JRF score.

OR M. Sc. in Food Science/Bioscience, Food Chemistry, Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Biology/ Botany/ Any Disciplines of Life Sciences, M Sc Agronomy/Soil Science/ Environmental Science/Allied Agricultural sciences disciplines – With GATE/NET JRF score.

OR

M. Tech. or M. Sc. Geoinformatics, M. Tech in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System, M. Sc. Geography, M. Tech. Agricultural Information Technology, M. Sc. Agricultural Physics and Meteorology - With GATE/NET (JRF)

OR

MBA (NET-JRF / LS/AP) OR MSc (Agri Economics/Extension) - NET-JRF / LS/AP or ICAR JRF / LS/AP) OR MA (Economics) – UGC NET-JRF.

Studentship Category:

  • IIT Guwahati offers admission to PhD programme under Regular Category (with fellowship) and certain Non-Regular Categories
  • The students admitted in the Regular Category pursue the programme on a full-time basis.
  • The candidates (Indian nationals) seeking admission into PhD under the Regular category must have qualified for receiving an assistantship from IIT Guwahati or any other recognized/government funding agency.
  • For admission into PhD programme under the regular category, the candidates must have one of the following qualifications for availing respective fellowships/ assistantships:
    • For Institute Assistantship:
      • Valid GATE score in relevant discipline.
      • BTech/ MSc/MA/MTech/ MS degree from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 8.0 on 10-point scale.
      • MTech/MS(R) or an equivalent degree:
        • Either qualified GATE (at some point of time, which may not be valid during application),
        • Or, qualify in the written examination conducted by IIT Guwahati (IATMLA Test). Check IITG admission main page for the information related to the examination.
    • For Fellowships from External Agencies:
      • NET-JRF of CSIR/UGC/DST/DBT/ICAR
      • UGC Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (UGC RGNF) Scholarship Scheme
  • The candidates qualified for INSPIRE Fellowship shall be admitted in self-financed category only. As and when the fellowship is awarded, they will be converted to the regular category from the “Effective Date” of fellowship.
  • Candidates with M.Tech. but don't have GATE score can also apply under Regular studentship category for Ph.D. Admission. Details are mentioned in Admission Brochure. Specifically see the details about IATMLA Test of IIT Guwahati.

 

Non-Regular Categories

It includes Sponsored, Employed Part-Time, Project-Staff, External, Self-Financed, Industry-Sponsored candidates. For details follow the IITG main admission portal:
