About Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering
The department was established during the inception of the institute in 1995 as the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Since its commencement, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality education, training and research at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in various areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering with broad emphasis on design aspects of electronic systems. In 2008, the department started the B.Tech. programme in Electronics and Electrical Engineering. This programme aims at producing engineers with sound knowledge in electrical engineering and a strong background in electronics. In 2011, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was renamed as Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE). To expand the department's research focus into interdisciplinary areas and enable graduates from other fields to conduct research in electronics and electrical engineering, the department introduced a new Dual [MS(Engg.)+PhD] degree program in 2015. All the academicians in the department are dedicated to finding solutions to the challenges of research and development in the field of engineering, besides the basic aim of preparing the students to become the next generation of leaders in their chosen area of study.
The faculty and students of the department conduct research in most areas related to Electronics, Electrical and Communication Engineering. The research activities in the department are broadly divided into six groups: i) Communication Engineering, ii) Signal Processing and Machine Learning, iii) Systems, Control and Automation, iv) VLSI & Nanoelectronics, v) Power Engineering and vi) Microelectronics, Photonics and RF Engineering. The Department has a large number of M.Tech, PhD and Dual degree [MS+PhD] students who are actively engaged in research. The department also collaborates with the government and reputed private organizations to undertake sponsored research and development projects.
