Summer Internship Programme - 2026

The Department of Mathematics, IIT Guwahati offers summer internships to undergraduate and postgraduate students to enable them to work with the mentors who are faculty members of the Department of Mathematics, IIT Guwahati. The tentative duration of the internship is from May 10 - July 10, 2026.

Applications are invited from interested students of recognized Colleges/Universities/Institutes in India for this internship.

Last date for online form submission: April 01, 2026

Eligibility for Applying:

  1. The student must be enrolled in the 2nd year of B.A./B.Sc./B.C.A. or 2nd/3rd year of B.E./B.Tech./B.S./M.Sc(Integrated)/M.Tech(Integrated)/B.S.-M.S.(Dual) or 1st year of M.A./M.Sc/M.C.A/M.Tech. at the time of application.

  2. Students should have a strong motivation to carry out work in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science through the Summer Internship Programme.

Before Submitting the Application

  • Contact your preferred mentor(s) among the available faculty members for the interns from the above table    (TableList of Faculty members Available as Mentors).
  • If you receive an affirmative email reply from at least one of the preferred mentors, then take a PDF of the email consent(s). Else, you need not apply.
  • Fill-up the Forwarding Letter (Download Here) from the Head of your Department or Institute, and get it signed.
  • Prepare a single PDF by merging the PDF of the email consent of mentor(s) and a scanned copy of the forwarding letter.
  • Make sure that the maximum size of the PDF file is less than 1MB.
  • Please note that a candidate must have E Mail consent from at least one of the prospective mentors, as well as the signed Forwarding Letter from the Head of his/her Department or Institute before applying.
  • Applications not accompanied with such an E Mail consent and Forwarding Letter may not be considered.

  • Mention three possible mentors in order of preference among the available list of faculty members in the online application form.
  • Upload the merged PDF of E Mail consent and Forwarding Letter in the online application form.

Other Information About the Internship

  1. Actual duration of internship may vary from a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 8 weeks.

  2. The Department of Mathematics, IIT Guwahati will not provide any financial assistance to interns; however, interns can utilize any fellowship (e.g., Summer Research Fellowship of Joint Science Academies (IAS/INSA/NASI)) available to them.

  3. The selected candidates will be provided access to the computer lab with internet facility. The attendance record of the selected candidates during the period will be maintained.

  4. The Submission of an application does not guarantee selection.

  5. On request, hostel accommodation can be arranged for which student bears all expenses.

  6. Selected applicants will receive an e-email. The process of acceptance will be informed through that e-mail.

  7. No further queries from the students will be entertained or replied if they are not selected.

  8. The internship is fully offline, and each intern has to give attendance in a register in the department office in each working day during their internship period. 

  9. Accommodation at IIT Guwahati hostel may be provided based on the availability and on a payment basis @ Rs. 100.00 Per day (may be revised) excluding food.

  10. Interns not requiring hostel accommodation should ensure that they are able to commute to the department (arrive in the morning and leave in the evening) in each working day during their internship period.
