Centre for Career Development

Centre for Career Development of the Institute centrally handles all aspects of campus placements for the graduating students of all Departments. CCD is well equipped with excellent infrastructure to support each and every stage of the placement processes. CCD staff members assist in arranging Pre-Placement Talks, Written Tests, Group Discussions, and Interviews etc. are made as per the requirements of the Organizations.

Centre for Educational Technology

The Centre for Educational Technology (CET) was established in the year 2003 at IIT Guwhati. It is a central facility of the institute to assist Teaching-Learning Process. It is involved in developing Educational Technology besides conducting Academic, Soft skill & Welfare Training programs for Faculty, Staff and Students. It administers projects under the National Mission for Education through Information Communication Technology (NMEICT). Prestigious national projects such as NPTEL, Virtual Laboratory,Ekalpa etc. are coordinated under CET. It collaborates with other IITs & Institutions under the NMEICT. It also administers national Quality Improvement Programs under QIP as a Zonal Centre for the North east. Quality Improvement Programme is being implemented with the objective of upgrading the expertise, qualification and capabilities of the faculty members of degree level technical institutions. Under QIP every year students are admitted in M.Tech and Ph.D programme at IIT Guwahati .Every year several Short Term Courses are organized under QIP and TE-QIP. It also organizes workshops for Curriculum Development. This leads to Model Curriculum, which is used as a base document by many institutions. It has Labs and studios for developing, recording and editing web and video courses. It has an e-learning room which acts as a virtual classroom. It interacts with all Departments and Centers at IITG The Knowledge Incubation Centre(KIC) attached to CET administers the Continuing Education and Training programs under TEQIP including the Quality circles. The Centre is primarily concentrating on development of infrastructure for Technology Enhanced Learning.

Central Instruments Facility

► Central Instruments Facility (CIF) is one of the major service centres of the Institute.

► CIF hosts various sophisticated instruments which cater the need of cutting edge research in many areas of modern science and technology.

► CIF is used by 11 of the 14 Academic/Research Departments and Centres of the Institute.

Computer & Communication Centre

The Computer & Communication Centre is solely responsible for keeping the Electronic Communication & Computation related facilities available to each and every member of IIT Guwahati. The services provided by the Computer & Communication Centre includes:
• Installation & Maintenance of Servers for:
  • Internet Access.
  • E-mailing Facilities.
• Computation Facilities.
• Management & upkeep of the Official IITG & Intranet Web Page.
• Management & upkeep of the Official IITG & Intranet Web Page.
• Management of the institute telephone exchange.
• Management of the Centralized Computer Lab accessible to all the students of the institute as well as to other local researchers/students.
• Maintaining the huge campus network, consisting about 10,000 nodes.
• Providing technical assistance to the Academic Institutes and Organizations in and around Guwahati.
• Providing facilities to the Students who come from various academic institutes from all over the world for their Short-term Courses, Project Work, Summer Training etc.
• Provides & maintains the PCs of the Faculty & Staff members.

These facilities are constantly upgraded to meet the evolving standards of IT. The Computer & Communication Centre remains open for seventeen hours(17) (8:00 AM to 12:00AM) a day and the students visit the Centre for their routine computing tasks. Many departments use the facilities of the Computer & Communication Centre to conduct their practical classes & examinations.

The Computer & Communication Centre also manages the IITG LAN, IITG Telephone Exchange and provide support to the users. The campus LAN has been extended to all the hostels. The Network connectivity to the residences have been extended using ADSL technology. New hardware and software are procured on a regular basis so as to provide a state of the art computing facility to the IITG family. The resource of the centre is also availed by students/researchers of other institutions in and around Guwahati.
