Hostel Affairs Board is the parent body for all matters related to hostels at IIT Guwahati. Popularly called HAB, it looks after issues that are common to all hostels and is the top authority for any decision related to hostels.

Manas

Manas is the first hostel in IIT Guwahati. With a strength of just 300 students. Manas is known for its excellent mess facilities , dhobi service(exclusive for manas), canteen, juice centre , gym , volleyball court, library, TT room,a basketball court behind it , a music room ,a TV room and its very own student friendly pantry.The alumni of this hostel form quite a strong network and always look to aid the hostel.

Dihing

Dihing is the second oldest hostel in IIT Guwahati. Facilities like common ground for cricket and football are available along with one volleyball ground, one TT room, a basketball court along with it’s own gym. Dihing Premier League(DPL) is a famous intra hostel football event. Dihing has one of the best mess in IIT Guwahati campus, supported by canteen and with it’s own juice center and stationary shop, so one doesn’t need to go too far to search for general utility items. With one common library, conference room and a TV room, the hostel provides a good environment for the students.

Barak

Barak is the 7th hostel in the IITG fraternity and derives its name from the River Barak which is a major river in north-eastern India and is a part of the Surma-Meghna River System. It was previously only for M.Tech and PhD. Students but from 2011 onwards the hostel also has boarders of B.Tech.It has capacity of around 500 students. Barak has a juice centre, stationary shop and a canteen along with other amenities like a TT table and a foosball table.

Siang

Siang hostel, named after the Siang valley in Arunachal Pradesh , was established in 2004 and is fourth hostel of IIT Guwahati. Facing the beautiful IITG lake Siang hostel is located on of the most picturesque locations of the campus and is in close proximity to the academic complex as well as the SAC. Home to more than 300 boarders, Siang is one of the few hostels having it's own cycle pool for common use of boarders.Siang is equipped with it's own library,music room,TV room,sports room and gym for recreational activities

Kameng

Kameng Hostel, located at the far end of the campus, was established in 2005. It is named after one of the tributaries of Brahmaputra. Standing four floors tall, the hostel accommodates 504 students in its 4 blocks. One can always find something happening at the hostel from project discussions , music sessions , cricket and football matches , snooker games etc.
Like every other hostel in the campus the canteen and the juice centre runs till 2pm.

Lohit

The new kid on the block, Lohit houses over 800+ students from almost all the courses from all years and is the only hostel to house male foreign students. It has facilities like - Canteen, Juice Center, Mess, Cricket and Volleyball ground for the sports enthusiasts, wide range of indoor games like table tennis and carrom. There is also a TV room - You can never miss out on cricket match after all, a quiet hostel library cum reading room and also a common room.

Brahmaputra

The mightiest hostel in the campus, just as Brahmaputra River is the mightiest among all of its tributaries.With a capacity of more than 1000 boarders, Brahmaputra offers a majestic view of the hills and Brahmaputra River. Established in 2012, it is one of the youngest Hostels having all necessary commodities like Washing Machines, 24X7 hot water water coolers etc. It is the only Hostel which has a large number of MTech and PhD students along with BTech students, which results in a healthy and interactive environment.The hostel consists of a Sports Room, TV Room, a Library and a common room(all common areas provide wifi).We have 2 canteens ,2 juice centers and a stationary shop as well.The four grounds of the hostel witness football, cricket and volleyball matches every weekend and are filled with beaming lights and eager spectators during Ba Liga (the annual intra-hostel football tournament), Big Bash( the annual intra-hostel cricket tournament) and Brahmaputra Cricket League.

Umiam

Umiam is a relatively new hostel, established in 2008. It is named after the Umiam lake in Meghalaya. It has 504 hostellers and is a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our mess, canteen and juice centre are excellent. The hostel is clean and well maintained.

Kapili

Kapili Hostel is one of the many hostels in IIT Guwahati. Life in an IIT can be easily demonstrated without much intricacy. A quick glance at Kapili for instance gives a fitting view of the feel of the much reputed Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.Like all other hostels, it too possess a canteen, a juice centre and a stationary shop.

Dhansiri

The most recently built girls hostel, Dhansiri is a perfect example of beauty lies on the inside. It has the best facilities, the most spacious and cleanest rooms, among all hostels in the campus. It’s home to mainly B.Tech girls and few masters students. With the sports field next to it and New SAC a hundred steps away, it has the best location one could ask for.

Subansiri

Subansiri is the first women's hostel of IIT Guwahati, inaugurated in 2003. The hostel has the capacity for around 500 boarders with four blocks. The hostel is equipped with different facilities for boarders like library, entertainment systems, extracurricular activity rooms, gym, washing machines etc.Currently Subansiri houses research scholars, post doctoral fellows, trainees, project staffs and administrative staff.

Married Scholar's Hostel

Married scholars’ hostel comprises of around 170 rooms accommodating married PhD scholars and Master’s students. It comprises of two blocks, old building and new building, the old building being one of the very first buildings of IIT guwahati. Married scholars’ hostel is a unique hostel which participates in Spardha in both men and women categories. It has children’s play space along with its own badminton court and a beautiful lawn for older dependents of scholars to rest. Indoor games such as carom, Chess, Ludo etc. are available in the hostel. Intra hostel competitions for badminton, chess and carom are organized annually.
