Situated in Core-2 , the department of Mathematics is one of the most happening departments on campus. Regular visits by eminent mathematicians are a staple of the department.The department has its own state-of-the-art computing laboratories and it also hosts the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) Regional Library. Mathematics & Computing is the 4 year bachelor's programme offered by the Mathematics department.

Course Structure

This B.Tech 4 year program is jam packed with challenging courses. The first year comprises of common courses with all the students of the institute, which leaves the department 3 years to provide its students a sneak-peek at the perks that a career of research in Pure Mathematics, Finance, and theoretical Computer Science or Computer Engineering have to offer, that’s 4 different bachelor degrees in some institutes. It’s safe for the incoming students to presume that the courses will be very compact, time bound and challenging. This is probably the only math and computing course among all the IITs which also offers financial engineering courses, the basic building blocks for any financial analyst in the market. The math courses taught here will be completely different to the math that the students have learnt so far. Most of the Computer Engineering courses like Digital Design, Computer Organization and Architecture, Operating Systems, Databases and Computer Networks, and Data Structures and Algorithms are taught by professors from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Future Opportunities

Many students from this branch have gone for higher studies in reputed universities abroad and within India. Regarding campus placement, some of the recruiters of students of M&C are Adobe, Amazon, Bank of America, Deloitte, Ericsson, Facebook, Infosys, Xerox Research, Microsoft, Oracle, Samsung, and PWC.
